The End of “Alias”

Well, it finally came!  No more “Alias”!  I say good riddance!  As much as the first two years were awesome, it’s been on its down hill ever since third season or so.  Soojin and I fell in love with the show when it first aired 5 years ago… the suspense and the plot twists.  It kept especially Soojin all excited and theorizing on what was going on!

Then after second season, things started to just get way too complicated.  Too many people dying and fake dying.  Plots getting way too complicated.  And then it felt like, *gasp*, “X-Files”!    Things started to get predictable and repetitive, just like X-Files.  And I was afraid that they’d can the show w/o any good amount of closure.  I hated Fox for that.  X-Files just disappeared and there weren’t any answers … just more unanswered questions.

Well, this rather quick two-episode season and series finale brought a closure to the series, but rather too abrupt, if you ask me!  Oh well… it’s over at least.  And good riddance, I say…

Ultimate ’80s Peppy Music Mix!!

Ok folks…

Time to pitch in!  I’m trying to make an energetic ’80s music mix so I can use it during the workouts and late night drivings!  Make your suggestions!

I’ve already come up with a few…

“Take On Me” – A-Ha

“Where The Streets Have No Name” – U2

“Never gonna give you up” – Rick Astley

Wow… Talk about a trip!  😮

In the spirit of “End the Hatred”

I recently watched another thought-provoking movie, and it’s called Joyeux Noël, a movie about World War I in the year of 1914.  The significance of this is that it was a first of its kind:  trench warfare.  It did an unimaginable mental damage to the soldiers, more than anyone ever thought to know.  Constant ear deafening bombing raids from the shells, and just raising your head above the trenches guaranteed  a headshot.

Enter the three countries: Scotland, France, and the Germans.  In the heat of the battle, and amidst series of God-given situations, the three come to a temporary truce on the eve of Christmas.  How symbolic.  They begin sharing more than just that, as they share food and drink, songs and music.  The three squadron leaders of each country develop a bond that surpasses the horrors of the war.  Though it comes to a sad and abrupt ending, I left with a warm feeling that hatred can be defeated… just as these soldiers did on the Eve of Christ’s birth.  I was very moved to find that the three countries’ soldiers didn’t let a war divide them and let hatred overflow in them.  Rather, they embraced the differences.

I can only pray that we could do the very same.  End the Hatred!  Stop it now.  In me.  In you.  In those around us, both near and far.

The Power of Addiction: Caffeine

Well, I was trying to think out of the box and see what I could “fast” on with the Easter around the corner.  Like many out there, I’m an avid coffee drinker.  Back when I worked under a German professor and a Russian post-doc,… well, you can guess how thick and strong the coffee was!  😮

However, since starting to work, the strength has dwindled down and I’ve grown accustomed to weaker brews.  Still, it was usually made up by the volume I’d consume.  Since having kids, I had gone from 1 cup a day to 2 cups and some times 2.5 cups a day!  Sleep was hard to come by…

Now that my kids have somewhat grown up a bit, and since caffeine was something I depended on, I thought I’d say ‘no’ to coffee for until the Easter and see how that affects me.  Well, day 2 is here and I have this HUGE migraine throbbing inside my skull, trying to get out!  Having enjoyed coffee from the age of early 20’s, and having discovered coffee at even earlier age of 10(!), it’s no wonder what kind of control this substance has on me.

If this humongous headache even slightly touches on the pain and suffering of what Christ had to go through on that mount on that day, so be it.  After my fasting is done, for the health sake, I plan on cutting down on coffee intake by significant amount.  It’s such a social drink though.  I don’t normally drink alcohol and so I’d need at least coffee to be that…

Anyway, here’s to you fellow coffee drinkers and addicts!  To the freedom!
