Moderating the Mob Online

I have been rather busy lately with online responsibilities…
You see, starting with Sharkyforums.com, I have become a moderator for 3 sites.

Sharkyforums.com
the Gamer Planet (tGP)
Coolest Gadets

The first one, my first “love”, is a computer-orieted forum site.  I’ve learned and helped loads of people via that site.  tGP is a site I found as I began playing Counter-Strike: Source.  Good team-oriented action brought me back again and again… and then they just asked me to be one of the 7 core members to help guide in the direction of the site!  😮  And then I stumbled across the Coolest Gadgets via Gizmodo, the gadget blog.

It’s been quite an experience becoming a moderator and all on these tech forums and sites.  But it’s also quite an experience… the biggest problem with big sites like Sharkyforums.com is that it also attracts tons of spam!  😡  In the end, it’s very exciting in this world of geekiness…  Hee…

Becoming a Moderator of Sharkyforums.com

Well, as most of you know, I am a die hard computer geek and a fan.

So needless to say that I’ve been a long-time (over 3 years) member of an online computer-related forums site called Sharky Forums.  Most people over there will be very helpful and knowledgeable on almost all aspects of computing, from softwares to hardwares.

Well, to my sincere surprise, the head poncho over there sends me a PM asking if I wanted to be a moderator for the forums!  😮  I was very shocked and accepted!  Now, I’m not the only moderator as I will be the admin for “CPU/Processors & Overclocking” section and “Highly Technical PC Forum” section.  😀

It also does not mean that I’m the most knowledgeable in those sections either… just that I was chosen for being most impartial and helpful.  So if you ever have any questions or seek help with your computing troubles, come on by!

Over there, I go by “proxops-pete“.  😉

Upcoming Intel CPU: Conroe, finally killing AMD?!

Hmm… it’s been a few months but ever since Intel released its plans for this year to release a new breed of CPUs, under codename of Conroe, the markets and the enthusiasts have been just talking up a storm!

Just ask any fanboys of either AMD or Intel camps and it’s been the talk of the town!  Based on 65-nm technology, with built-in dual core and sharing 4 MB(!!) of cache, it sure sounds like a [Athlon64] killer!  At this past CES, it beat an OC’ed Athlon FX running at 2.8 GHz (while Intel’s Conroe was running at modest 2.7 GHz!)…

The excitement is there as a fellow enthusiast.  Intel sure seems to want to make itself a definite king of the CPUs this year as it also released ULTRA cheap ($133) dual core Intel D 805!  If you didn’t know, the next cheapest dual core comes from AMD X2 3800+ at close to $300!  That’s a huge price gap!  The downside is that it is a huge heat furnace!  But we are talking $133 here!  *GASP*

While AMD plans on releasing a new (just updated verion of Socket 939) AM2 socket, no real enthusiast is… well, enthusiastic!  😛  Just basically adding DDR2 memory support doesn’t buy anything for us, the fanatics of computer hardwares.  Could AMD be really toppled over?

It all depends on two things:  1. What will the pricing be on these Conroes?!  Will they be more than $1000?!!  Hopefully for Intel’s sake, not.  2. What does AMD have behind their sleeves?  If anything, this should just heat up the competition and fuel the race.  Go AMD!  😛

Dell buys out Alienware!

Dude, you are getting … an Alienware!

What was once known as flagships of high tech computers is now a sell-out and is now owned by Dell!  Alienware, though expensive, has been famous for high tech computers and awesome quality overall.  Unlike Dell.  Until now.

Alienware sold themselves out.  I just read the article last month on Alienware and how it started up with two guys set out to make top quality PCs for die-hard gamers and unrelenting service now turned over their values and such for hard cash.  🙁

I’m ticked.  The two founders swore that they would not sell out.  Downright liars.  There goes innovation…  Another sad day in the world of computing and technology…

Death of a friend [of sort]… my BFG 6800 GT!

Well, my BFG 6800 GT has been fine but tonight… it started to croak…
While playing CS: Source, the screen went blank right after vertical white lines… 3 times… had to reboot … 3 times!

So I call BFG 24/7 Tech support… and they say it’s dying… and I have to RMA it… and the question of the month (or year) is…

What will they replace it with?!!

If you know my story a bit, when my 2-month-old 6800 died, they replaced with free 6800 GT! So… what are my chances that they’d replace it with… say… 6800 Ultra or even 7800 GS?!! I doubt they will be that nice to me again… but while I wait… this will be … interesting…

Oh, and does anyone have either a free or very cheap AGP card to hold me running my F@H inbetween?!    If you have no idea what I’m mumbling about… that’s ok too.

Upcoming Intel CPU: Conroe, finally killing AMD!

😮

AMD has enjoyed wonderful past few years with the enthusiast market with their Athlon64 and Opteron CPUs.  They are awesome in performance and value!  AND they destroeyd Pentium 4’s performance!

However, now that is thrown into an earthquake as Intel will be releasing a new CPU, code named Conroe.

Here’s a preview of the comparison and performance…. and all I have to say is…  WOW!
