Guys and Shiny Things

What is it that men like myself have with shiny things?!  Is it just me??

I love shiny watches for one… silver is preferred!  My computer case is silver (and shiny)… Hee… it’s like I become possessed or something whenever I see shiny silver surfaces!  😀  Prime example… I upgraded my external hard drive to a 300-GB version with SATA connection.  The external case is Vantec NexStar 3.  It’s a beaut.  And it’s shiny aluminum case!  And on top of all this, the HDD LED  indicator light is blue to match my case!  Whoopee! So is this just me or are you guys also a “shiny fanatics”?!  😮

My Hobby called Computer

Well, you were gonna hear it from me sooner or later… and it’s later. 😉

It’s my thing… as much as I worry about technology and the advancement of it, I also enjoy it. The full immersion of it.

So without further adue, here’s my home built computer:

Case: Silver Cooler Master Wave Master with modded 120 mm exhaust fan on top. I also have 2 80 mm fans in front and a 90 mm exhaust fan.

CPU: AMD Athlon64 3000+ Newcastle core, stock speed of 2.0 GHz, currently overclocked at 2.43 GHz (9x 270 HTT).

Memory: Patriot PDP+XBLK PC3200 1 GB kit (2x 512 MB) rated for 2-2-2-5 at PC3200 and 3-4-4-8 at PC4266 rating! In short, whoot!

Video Card: BFG 6800 GT OC with 256 MB of video memory so I can play Counter-Strike: Source well and pretty at high resolution! Can you say “lifetime warranty” (which is how I got “free upgrade” from 6800 to 6800 GT!)

Sound Card: M-Audio Delta DiO 2496. Don’t let the fools fool you… 2-channel is where it’s at! 24-bit 96-kHz resampling to be precise! Suh-weet!

CPU Cooling: ThermalTake Pipe101 with 120 mm Panaflo (by Panasonic) fan! The sucker can pump out 115+ cfm (cubic feet per min)!! But it can also be very loud… it’s a good thing I have speed controller for it! 😉

Motherboard: Chaintech VNF3-250 with nforce3-250 chipset but it’s too bad they are moving now away from motherboard businessl 🙁

Power Supply: Enermax Whisper 460W …. very solid!

HDDs: Western Digital 120 GB, Seagate 100 GB, Western Digital 120 GB SATA

Optical Drives: Pioneer 16X DVD±RW, NEC 16X DVD±RW

Other: PCToys 5.25″ Four Fan Controller Blue LED

If I had the money to start my own business…

… it would entail a computer consulting/building/repairing services.

For retail stores like BestBuy and CompUSA to charge like $50 for a measley memory upgrade (which involves opening the case and removing and placing in a stick or two of memory for total of 5 minutes!) is ludicrous to me.  In fact, it’s despicable!  😡

So much in fact, that if I ever came into large amount of money, I want to start my own non-profit computer services.  It would encompass advice and consulting on what to upgrade, best value, and other general things.  In fact, I’d NOT charge for memory upgrades!  Sheesh… The sheer greed of these corporations gets on my nerves!  I’d definitely be about affordability mixing with quality services.

We would tell where the consumer could get the best prices be it online or retail stores, what’s good value and not.  And my advice would entail around the customer’s actual non-bloated needs!

Ok… thanks for letting me vent off…  😉

Techie and Kids

Well, take a look at this…

What is that you ask? It’s a computer that my daughter made! She sees me so much on computer that she decided to make her own! Awesome!! 😀

Next image we have is …

Anna listening to my favorite classical music piece: A. Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons”. Here’s my son, JJ, listening as well!

The headphone HD-535 is by the famous German company called Sennheiser. Their headphones are simply awesome. The detail that gets recreated on these phones is simply just amazing! I am a newbie audiophile in that sense. 😉 I always rip my music CDs at 192 kbps VBR (Variable Bit Rate) using Exact Audio Copy, a freeware, and LAME encoder. What comes out is near-CD quality MP3 audio! Yummy!
