If you have a Nintendo Switch and it has been upgraded to the firmware 5.0, you need to avoid using third party accessories on your console. Reports are coming in, according to Forbes, that the 5.0 firmware is bricking some consoles that are running those third-party accessories, such as the Nyko Portable Docking Kit pictured below.

Nintendo has responded to the bricking of consoles essentially saying don’t use unlicensed third-party accessories with the Switch. Another accessory seemingly targeted by the 5.0 update is the YockTek USB-C converter. A video from a gamer with a bricked console has been published to YouTube.

In the video from a guy going by Spawn Wave, he says that after updating to the 5.0 update, his console refused to charge. He investigated and found power was getting to the battery, it just wasn’t charging. A new Switch acquired on the 4.0.1 software was charging.

When he took that battery out of the 5.0 Switch and put it into the older 4.0.1 Switch it started to charge again. When he put the 50% charged battery back into the 5.0 Switch, all he got was endless boot cycles and a non-functional console. The working theory, for now, is that 5.0 has code to lock out 3rd party docks and accessories.
