JJ & ER

Yikes!  What a day!

So we are at church.  I’m setting up the computer and others for service, and Soojin’s doing her usual greeting preparations… suddenly JJ comes running crying!  And what do I see?!!  A huuuuge gash on his right rear forehead!!   😮

The gash was about 1/4″ deep and half inch or so long!  I’m not that worried ’cause it looked like a bad scar but nothing serious.  Soojin takes a look and she is freaking out to the nth degree!!

Eventually, we decide to wait for Sanghee Samonim to get here (she’s a RN) and get her opinion who says at her arrival that JJ needs to get to ER.  So Soojin and Sanghee leave for Texas Children’s Hospital.

Eventually, the doctors decide to pull the skins together to apply… some kind of crazy glue!  😮  Yikes… I never knew that there’s an alternative to the old fashioned stitches!  Anyhow, Soojin later told me how well JJ was at the ER.  He didn’t cry one bit!  Even the nurses and the doctor were surprised!  He made me so proud.

Kids play and get hurt.  I’m just glad and thankful that it wasn’t worse.  Boys though do play rougher and are more prone to such larger damage.  Oh well.  C’est la vie!

Ethiopian Mission Trip draws nigh…

Well, now there’s only 6 more days till we leave for Ethiopia!
Though I’ve been to Thailand, Mexico, Haiti, and Lousiana for mission trips, this will mark momentous occasion for me as it will be the first (and hopefully many more) time in Africa!  Please pray for the preparations…  Thank God that last two passports for our 7 members came in!  Yeah…

Please pray for safety, health, and effectiveness of our time there…

The Astronaut Farmer – Review and Thoughts

So I got a chance to see this movie and watched it at first with reservation.

At first, it sounds like a whacked up comedy job, but as the plot thickens, I saw the dream and hope of one man, and his family. In reality, it hit home for me even more so because I have always wanted to go into space. However, chance of getting into the astronaut corps is worse than my becoming a doctor! So the fact that he’s an aerospace engineer like me hit me. On top of that, even more reality of the fact that he has a family to care for and responsible for hit even harder. Astronaut training takes a long time, and a lot out of you. I just don’t know if I could put my family through it.

In the end, I still cried for its touch on humanity, not losing hope, and chasing the dream caught my attention. The flow could’ve been better, but I didn’t watch it for that. Acting though was very well done, I must say. Dad was now a hero. Just for that alone, it was very touching. 4/5 is what I give it.

Transformers The Movie (2007): The Review

I still remember … seeing the movie … when I was 12 years old! It was beyond awesome! Megatron was still a gun and Bumblebee was still a VW Beetle.

Now, they are a plane and Camaro, respectively. Whoopie… I wasn’t too thrilled about it… but being a fan from the yonder years, I still had to watch it.

Thanks to local Chinese church’s VBS (Vacation Bible School), I had free time! So I went to watch it tonight. It was… ok. Too much modernization for me… I guess I will be cursed as the old school when it comes to Transformers.

*SPOILER ALERT*

They killed off Megatron way too easily and way too fast, in my opinion. Plot was just meh… I felt that the original animated movie had better plot. And the action was just too fast… didn’t have time to absorb the sequences at all. Felt like the second half of the movie was just way too fast paced. Die Hard 4 was better at that… oh well.

And Starscream was way more annoying!! Frenzy?! What the… Soundwave was da man! Oh well… Still, there is a difference between “staying up to date” and trying to “woo the younger crowd with latest CG by abandoning your roots”. In this case, they came *THIS* close to abandoning the roots.

My friend, James’ Kidney Transplant Surgery

Ok… the date and times are set! Shocked

His sister’s surgery is 7/11/07 @ 7 am
James’ surgery is 7/11/07 @ 9 am

He said that his immune system will deteriorate after the surgery and will be homebound for 3 months w/o any personal visits. So please pray for successful surgeries and recoveries. Thanks.

DSL modem went kaputt: Offline for 2 days!

Whew… after 2 days of troubleshooting, it was determined that my DSL modem was dead.  Kaputt.  So I had to buy one of those DSL modem/wireless router combo crap.

Thankfully, it works ok.  Why can’t they sell them separately?  In certain things like wireless routers, I don’t like to combine everything into one… one thing goes wrong, all is dead.

Anyhow, that was a boring but busy weekend.

How do you work so late??!

For the personal record, I had to work 10.5 hours today! 😮 For some, it’s not that unusual. But see, for me, that’s very very very rare. How rare? Very rare. Like my steak, it’s rare. 😛 Why? Even from my high school years, I decided that I would not be a workaholic and not spend most of my time at work, and lose the time with the precious family.

So for the past 9+ years of working, I have avoided jobs that require too long of hours, too much effort, and responsibility. Don’t misunderstand me. I do my job and give it my best. But I deliberately didn’t want to (and still don’t) be a manager. Way too much politics aside, management not only requires much time and effort, but also much ass-kissing. Yeah, you read that right here. 😛

However, raising kids is expensive. 🙁 So one needs to make more money. Cars are not functioning well either. So one tries to get a better paying job (trust me, rocket scientists definitely don’t get paid). But seeing how I got home close to 8 pm, I barely had an hour with the kids. My cousin used to put in 100+ hours a week and slept at work! 😮 How does one put in so much?! Is it worth all that money?

My kids are already 3 and 5. Anna goes to Kindergarten this fall. JJ is so cute and so energetic. Time flies too quickly. I swore to myself that I would not be a workaholic or too focused on money. I still remember when JJ was a baby… that moment passed so fast!

I don’t want to miss my kids’ growing up. It’s been hard and busy at work. But I can’t see myself working this late for the most of my life! Even four to five hours a day with my family isn’t enough! But one?! Shiiiiiiteeee! I think I will just keep on driving my jalopy and and keep on living in our apartment. 😀 (Please no comments about how it’s a waste of money and should invest in a house. That’s another post!)
