Fold for a cure please!!

As some of you know, I’ve lost a lot of relatives and friend to cancer… my grandfather to lung cancer, my uncle to liver & lung cancer, my cousin to leukemia, my grandma to another cancer, my aunt to another cancer…  Our beloved friend was lost to stomach cancer and over the weekend, I learned of more tragedies…

Soojin had already lost two uncles (on her mom’s side) to liver cancer and now the only remaining uncle just discovered he has liver cancer as well!    Soojin’s worried that her mom will eventually also get it.  So Soojin’s oldest aunt had died less than a year ago…

The list just goes on… I felt so helpless… ’cause I wanted to help in whatever I could… turns out I wasn’t too far… I discovered Folding @ Home, a distributed computing developed by Stanford professor.  You basically allow Stanford to run protein folding simulations on your computer and pass on the info.  If you own a computer, you can help in fighting the cancer!  I leave both of my computers on 24/7!  Even with increased fuel costs, it doesn’t cost that much to run them 24/7.  If a PC uses 500 W, even in a day, that’s 12 kW-hr.  At rates like even conservative 20 cents/kW-hr, that is only $2.40 a day, but likely about $1.80 a day (since current rate is about 15 cents/kW-hr and normal PC uses 300W or so).

I fold so that I don’t have to lose people.  Do you?  Please consider it!!  I will even give out free tech support for it!!

Why and how does God love me so much?!!

You know, if I didn’t major in engineering, I did want to study sociology and possibly psychology, to learn how humans think and behave.  It has always been a “hobby” of mine.  Take driving for instance, I usually try to predict the behaviors of the drivers around me, depending on the cars and current behaviors and such.  This comes in handy especially if I need to rush somewhere.  Of course, I can’t nail down the behaviors all the time and get all of them right…

But as I was driving to a church meeting last night and noticing all these horrendous (and dangerous) drivers all around me, a thought struck me.  Why would God love a human being?  How could he love me?!  They are not new questions.  In fact, I’ve been there loads of times… but it never ceases to amaze me how God could (and does) still choose to love us, despite our wickedness, despite my selfishness, despite my faults and sins, and I could go on, but I think you get the point.

If it wasn’t for God, I’d be cussing at the stupid drivers all the time and wouldn’t care much for consequences.  However, because he chose to forgive me through Christ, I always feel like that servant that was forgiven the million dollar debt, and I want to show that gratitude … to anyone and everyone!  Ah the wonders of God’s love… it never ceases to amaze me… I pray that is the case for you also.

Love those rubs…

I love rubs… or a massage.  So I ask Soojin always for a rub on my back.

Well, it must be genetic… ’cause my kids do too!  Either when they are sleepy (before or after sleep) or when they are sick, they always ask us to rub them.  Almost always, it’s the back.  They can take it for tens and tens of minutes!!    And if I stop, they get cranky and ask for more… and then Soojin says, “Taste your own medicine!”  Hee…  I don’t mind that much…

What I do mind is when they say their butt itches and they want me to scratch it!!     Why is that?  Oh well… Physical touch, I believe, is one of the main ways the kids feel that they are loved.  So I naturally try to give them more hugs and kisses… and rubs on their back and their butts!!  Ok… I will say it… “There’s no butt about it!!”

BMW 330d – My idea of performance car with 40+ mpg!

I read on a BMW 330d recently…

What is typical with BMW is that it’s a very fine sports four door.  231 bhp with turbocharged 3 L V6, this baby runs on diesel!!  So in addition to 0-60 mph in 6 seconds!  All this while keeping up the freakin’ impressive 43.5 mpg!!

Wow… blow away your competition AND get to conserve fuel!!  Very nice indeed… what’s even nicer is that it only costs about $2000 more than 330i.

My Little Anna is Growing Up!

Soojin’s friend from afar (Cypress, whoopi!) came to visit and so we spent the Labor Day at the Kemah Boardwalk!  There’s rides and such… but mostly for kids… OLDER kids.  I didn’t even think that JJ and Anna would even get on the merry-go-round!

Turns out that I was right… half right!  Anna stepped up to the plate!  She was all excited with the merry go around!

JJ, as you can see in the pic, sat on the seat!  Oh well… he will come around.  Anna, on the other hand, even wanted to go on that aero flyer that goes pretty high and spins around fairly fast!    That’s my girl… she totally owned these rides!!  Hee…  No fear… except for the train ride while going through the wild west tunnels.

She’s growing up… She enjoyed the rides, that’s for sure!
