From Engadget: Netflix locks up Academy Award nominated exclusives from The Weinstein Company

If you’re looking for more content to watch on Netflix’s Watch Instantly streaming service — especially since all those Starz movies are exiting stage left at month’s end — we have good news, as it just announced a multi-year exclusive deal with The Weinstein Company. The agreement covers foreign language, documentary and “certain other movies” that will be watchable in their pay-TV window only on Netflix, and not HBO or Showtime. That includes such high profile selections as The Artist, which is nominated for 17 Academy Awards this weekend and Best Documentary nominated Undefeated, as well as other flicks like Coriolanus and The Intouchables. Of course, this is still Netflix so while fans of subtitles and exposés may be sated, The Weinstein Company’s more mainstream flicks and Dimension Films releases like Scream 4 aren’t included, as they’re still Showtime exclusives due to the deal it signed with the channel back in ’08. Either way, more movies is more movies and you can check out all the details in the press release after the break, hopefully this deal works out better than HD DVD’s exclusive Weinstein pact did back in the day.

This movie will RILE you up!

From Popular Science – New Technology, Science News, The Future Now: Video: People Flying, Superhero Style, Over New York City

New York Finally Gets Its Real-Life Superheroes

Viral marketing agency Thinkmodo has been bringing sci-fi to life in the skies over New York City for the past couple of weeks, so if you thought you saw something out of the ordinary in the past few days–like perhaps a few people lazily looping around the skyline like superheroes–no need to adjust your medication. To promote an upcoming film, the agency custom built three remote controlled aircraft shaped like humans and put them in the air over New York and New Jersey.

The three main characters in 20th Century Fox’s upcoming film Chronicle have the ability to fly, so Thinkmodo thought the best was to build hype around the film would be to create some “flying people” sightings around NYC. So far, so good. Local news stations picked up the story, and a video the team released documenting the campaign (see it below) has garnered well more than half a million hits as of this writing.

Viral marketing can be so absolutely boring, but a gnarly RC airplane hack for the sake of sci-fi? Consider our hats tipped.

Full-length Movie on Youtube – Born of Hope

It’s rare to see anything longer than 5 minutes on Youtube but here’s a good exception! A full 70-minute movie inspired by the likes of J.R.R. Tolkien’s masterpiece, “The Lord of the Rings” Though it may not be an award-winning title, this should be the direction of future movie releases…

Once: A Totally Mesmerizing Video AND Audio Experience!

I first heard them on NPR last Friday.  Check their video interview/concert out!  So I was intrigued by their rather memerizing and VERY original works.  Then I learned that these two called “The Swell Season” were brought together because of a “small” movie called “Once“.  It was released in 2006 and since it was on Netflix, I decided to check them out.

Boy, was I glad I did it!!  I can’t stop enjoying the movie!!  And the music was even more so!  It was mesmerizing and haunting, in good ways!  The songs are just so original!  If they had to be compared to something, dare I say it’s comparable to Simon & Garfunkel’s work!  The movie story is rather simple of two people who cross path because of music.  The songs are sooo original that it’s refreshing!  I loved the soundtrack so much that I ended up buying it on Amazon.com!  I have listend to it 4 times already!

The guy’s voice (Glen Hansard) is very gritty and his lyrics are very honest.  The woman’s voice, Marketa Irglova, is gentle but not boring.  And their combination is just very explosive!!  I really recommend this to everyone out there!  Go watch it and listen to it!
