Caffeine helps women stay sharp

I love coffee… ever since I took a sniff at the age of 8, I imagined that hot choco was coffee to me.  😛  So my affinity to coffee has been very long and though may not be an aficionado by any means, I am still somewhat avid drinker still…

Well, there’s a co-worker at work who’s kind of like a godmother to me.  She told me today of how her mother (86) is still so lively and well, and that her mother’s sisters (88 and 92) are also lively and sharp.  So I asked her that she should find out about what enables them to be so.  And without a hesitation, she says, “coffee”!  😮  I was pleasantly surprised to hear that.

And she then went onto tell me about Chronicles article that stated to support her claim (and the same one that made her drink coffee again!).   It states that 3 cups of coffee or tea a day can help women over the age of 60 maintain mental sharpness!   But alas, not in men.  🙁

So dad, go ahead and tell mom to drink more coffee!!  😀  LOL…  to your health, mom!

Anna’s Two Teeth

Anna’s all growing up… these past two days, she lost her first two teeth!

It was a painful (and loud) ordeal… but we are proud of her for dealing with it. She lost the 2nd one while eating strawberries. And then we went to local Ben & Jerry’s to celebrate!! It was good times…

Allergy Cure of the Day: Rooibos Tea

Well, if you have allergies as badly as I do, you try just about anything (except for needles!!).  I have tried the neti pot without much success.  I may try again before the allergy season ’cause I started using neti pot in the peak of it and it was too late to help… so is the theory of my “resident mother” at my work place.

Well, my other “mother” read on this thing called rooibos tea that supposedly cured this one article writer.  So I got mine from Amazone.com and it smells… interesting.  Here’s to ridding of allergies…

Teeth Incident

Ah the joys of raising kids… I was going to let them watch bit of TV (JJ loves Thomas the Tank Engine) and then off to the library for Thursday’s Family Time.  Then all of a sudden, Anna rushes to me crying!  Hard!

She was bleeding in her mouth… turns out Anna was biting on a blanket, and JJ pulled on it.  Hard!  Her teeth were loose… Yikes.  After much panicking, I called Soojin and then Sanghee for advice.  Both told me to ice her teeth area to rid the pain.

After some time, bleeding stopped and spoke with her dentist who told me what I needed to hear.  Don’t bother taking her to ER ’cause all we will do is wait and they won’t do anything.  She told me to just ice it, stop the bleeding, and feed her liquids and soft foods only.

Ah the excitement of raising children… one bites and one pulls.

Neti pot

… so I have had allergies to pollen, dust, and cat hairs since I was 14 or so…

I’ve tried them all… Cingular, Claritin, Allegra/D and such… none work well.
Then I ran across this thing called “Neti pot”… some sort of yoga-related ancient technique…

It’s like drowning though!! So I finally picked one up from local Whole Foods Market and yes… it feels like you are drowning… but my sinus does feel clean… but soon as I get outside and pollen kicks in, nose itches again…

Any long-term users out there that can attest whether this will replace my allergy medication or not??

Soojin’s Ankle Update

So we went into see Dr. Holt for the MRI follow up… the good news is that there’s no surgery required though some of the ligaments are torn.  The key tendon wasn’t torn so it’s good.

The bad news is that it will take roughly couple of months to heal.   Thanks for the prayers.

Part II: Please pray for Soojin

Well, as most of you know, Soojin twisted her ankle on Friday.  This morning, we went in to see an orthopedicist and it’s not looking good.  The doctor said that while the bones are not broken, the tendons around her ankle seem to be badly bruised.    She will be going to a hospital for an MRI hopefully later today…

If things look bad, the doctor says that a surgery will be required…   Thanks for praying for her…
