Sony-made Google TV units will come with Plex as standard

Plex has inadvertently announced that its excellent media center software will be baked into Sony’s forthcoming range of Google TV devices. A customized version of its app for the platform arrived on Google Play, declaring that it was only available for download on “late model 2012 Sony internet TVs.” When pressed on the matter, Plex revealed that it’ll arrive pre-installed on the second generation gear, expected to arrive in Europe by September.

From the blind cook: watch me on “masterchef” season 3, premiering june 4 & 5

Christine is a good friend of mine… well, at least I think so.  :P  She is going to be my very first friend to be on major TV time!!  So yes, I’m plugging her in!  Watch it!

=============================================================

I’ve been MIA for a while. But not to fear–I had good reason. I promise. During my hiatus, I was cooking my ass off to impress Gordon Ramsay, Graham Elliot, and Joe Bastianich. That’s right, I was cooking for my life to get on season three of the summer hit show “MasterChef” on FOX. After open casting calls in several cities across the U.S., I made it past tens of thousands of contestant hopefuls to land a slot in the top 100 to cook for the three notable judges. Did I impress them enough to get a white apron? Tune in to find out: “MasterChef” season 3 premieres June 4 and 5 on FOX at 9/8 Central. See what craziness ensues! In the meantime, here’s a promo commercial. And yes, that’s yours truly smack dab in the middle of it already crying like a buffoon. Hah!

From Lifehacker: Why You Should Watch and Record Video in 720p Instead of 1080i

Despite the many technological advancements we’ve had over the past few years, interlaced video seems to have stuck around. Interlaced is the “i” in 1080i and the reason it’s not quite as good as 720p. It’s in your cable, your televisions, and your camcorders. You should stop using it. Benjamin Higginbotham, the Technology Evangelist, explains why in the above video. More »

From Geeks are Sexy Technology News: Wil Wheaton Addresses Star Trek The Next Generation Cast

At the recent Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo a rare event happened. The core cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation united on stage for a panel. There, an interesting question was posed to Wil Wheaton by a unique fan: Battlestar Galactica’s Aaron Douglas.

This prompted the youngest member of the cast (now 39 years old) to take a moment and get something off his chest to his former cast mates.

So great to see these guys all together and I wish I could have been there for this awesome and genuine moment.

Wil’s character Wesley Crusher on Next Generation was not unanimously received and Wil’s decision to leave the show was apparently his own. It’s not like he has been out of work since leaving Star Trek, however in geek circles, he has earned his own recognition – even playing himself on The Big Bang Theory.

But to hear him come to terms with his position on the stage, and finally be able to admit to the cast he worked with the longest that he always felt like an outsider – and then be affirmed by them – had to be a big relief for him.

This was very touching to see. Considering the show has been off the air for 18 years, and the last feature film with this cast was a decade ago, it is a testament to the fans who still have a soft spot for the franchise.

Clearly this made a great impact on Wil Wheaton’s life and career.

Do you still consider yourself a fan of Star Trek: The Next Generation?

From Engadget: NimbleTV streams cable content to ‘any’ device, launching ‘in the next few months’

ImageWith services like Aereo TV taking a similar streaming approach — and getting sued in the process — NimbleTV won’t have an easy road ahead, but the outfit’s willing to take its chances. The startup plans to launch its subscription-based offering to the public within the next few months, allowing future users to stream cable content to unspecified devices at any time and from anywhere on the globe — all thanks to Nimble’s cloud-based software. However, unlike some of its competitors, NimbleTV will give customers the ability to select channel packages based on personal preferences, though that’ll depend heavily on the TV providers going along for the ride. While the service will only be available in the US and India at first, the company does plan a broader launch at some point in the future. No word yet on how pricing will play out, but there is a NYC-only beta (just as Aereo did) which you can join now by giving the source below a quick click.
