Texas State Railroad Park

So over the weekend, we took a trip to Palestine… that’s Palestine, Texas!!   It’s about 3.5 hour drive from here, closer to Tyler area.  There is a state park which has the ol’ fashioned steam train rides.  So we drove up on Friday night and rode the train rides at Texas State Railroad Park.  We took the departure from Rusk because that one was steam train while the one that left from Palestine was a diesel.

Here’s one with mom and daughter…

Now a family shot.

Anna & JJ on the railroad tracks…

Again, mommy & daughter…

I just love JJ’s motion and expression!!

One more family pic inside as it left!  It’s 1.5 hour ride each way and 1.5 hours for lunch so total of 4.5 hours!

Anna’s Pre-K Graduation

So our precious Anna finally graduated Pre-K school!

We thank God for such a precious child for us to care for and love!

…except that she hated the hat!

And these are Anna’s teachers! Congrats sweetie! Now, onto Kindergarten!

Be good to your pastors

What do you think is the most stressful job? I’m sure being a parent is quite stressful, along with being a teacher! But just as stressful is a pastor!

Both my father and my only brother are full-time pastors. They don’t get paid well. I grew up being a PK so I know first-hand how much stuff one has to do as a pastor. Well, my dad has been a long-time gungho pastor that proves that you don’t become one without 1) being called to be a pastor and 2) if you want to make lots of money! O_o

On top of all that, pastors these days must be well versed in computers, good in public speaking, be sociable and peacemakers. Even if everyone was helpful, the job is very stressful. My father, bless his heart, has become bold, has weak heart, and high blood pressure. And I attribute most of that due to stress. And where does stress for pastors come from mostly? People. The sheep. Members.

So treat your pastor out to lunch or dinner more often. Take better care of their family. Be more attentive to their needs. Give more of yourself to the church. I know Pastor Shawn will want me to delete the following stuff once he finds out, but there’s a LOT on his heart. And we as his sheep should help him in all that we can. Put more of your time into serving others. Take off from his plate. In the end, taking care of our pastor and his family is taking care of our own church. God bless. If he gets worn out, so will the church. Especially pray for his migraine headaches. Let Satan have nothing on him.

To me, pastors are my heroes.

UPS sucks!

Well, as most of you know, I sold these auto-related tools for Nick on eBay and generously, he donated all of the proceeds to mission support.  However, the buyer received them and said it wasn’t working so I said no problem, since I had shipped them insured.

Now, I find out that UPS denied my insurance claim!    I’m mad for this.  I have shipped quite a few via UPS always entrusting their insurance to pick up for damaged goods.  But this was the first time I had to take up on the claim and I am more than disappointed!  First they blame that I re-used the box.  WTH!!  And that I didn’t pad the contents properly?!  I put the bubble wrap generously on that for one, and so when I ship it, the UPS Store person couldn’t tell me that there’s a whole slew of crap load of restrictions to be considered “shipped properly”?!!

I quit UPS.  I’m now going to go FedEx route or USPS!   UPS, you suck!  And I quit you!

/*End Rant*/

ATI (um, now AMD) makes a turd come back!

Competition is usually a good thing.  That’s especially the case from a consumer’s point of view.  It drives the businesses to deliver better products at better cheaper prices.  You say Intel, I say AMD.  You say nVidia, I say ATI, um… I mean now, AMD as AMD bought out ATI.

After what felt like decades of delays (though in effect about 6 months or so), ATI/AMD finally released HD 2900. If you just google search on  it, you will get loads of reviews saying how disappointing it is.  Why?  ‘Cause nVidia still is the king in the graphics processing kingdom.  8800GTX pwns the HD 2900!!  Without much trying even!    Why is this a sad news for me?  It’s because I had hopes for ATI merger with AMD.  AMD, if you are listening, get your act together!!   Don’t become another 3Dfx!!

As a die-hard PC gamer, I sure hope for healthy balance in the hardware industry.  AMD needs to make a comeback to Intel’s Core 2 Duo, and ATI needs to fight off 8800 GTX (now with Ultra).  This has been a nerd’s ticked-off show-down thread.

Confessions of a father: #28

So I was playing with the kids after I was done vacuuming.  It was kind of a spontaneous thing.  JJ got on my back from our bed and so I decided to jump onto the bed and let them bounce.  We did this a few times.  But when Anna got on my back after a few times, she bounced more than normal and hit her head on the corner of a shelf next to the bed!!

There was bleeding.  I had to apply pressure to stop it.  At first, I tried to reason myself that it was Anna’s fault for bouncing too much.    Yeah, I know.  That was bad of me.  But then I realized that to truly take responsibility as a parent, you have to stand up for your share (of responsibility).  Though I didn’t throw her at the corner of the merciless shelf, I am the one responsible for playing on the bed to begin with.

She cried quite a bit.    I applied pressure for good half hour and in that time, I kept telling her that daddy was sorry and just comforted her.  Later on when Soojin found out, Soojin asked Anna if daddy yelled at her when she cried, she said no, but daddy stopped the bleeding and told her that he was sorry.

Still…  I feel bad.  And thus ends my confessions.

FLAC beats MP3 anyday!!!

So I remembered that I have some FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec) music files on my computer and with my newly found X-Fi XtremeMusic sound card, I decided to give it a boot again. Couple that with awesome Foobar2000, pipe that through the PiMETA amplifier and listen through the wunderbar Sennheiser HD-535 and what do you get?? An audio bliss, my friends…

Pipe that lossless music of my favorites in the likes of Brave Saint Saturn’s “Daylight” from “The Light of Things Hoped For”, and Five Iron Frenzy’s “Eulogy” and “Phenomenon” by Thousand Foot Krutch, and my sentimental pick of “The Reason” by Hoobastank (yes, you read that right) and I am gliding through this late Sunday in musical haven.
In case, I haven’t, I will be sharing “Daylight” from Brave Saint Saturn soon…
Oh, here it is! Pay attention to the lyrics my friends… sheer beauty. Speaks volume… and well, space!
