I have my very first article published (even if it’s online!)

I came across this neat online magazine called “The Brew” thanks to Deborah. Well, I found out that it’s written by viewers a lot of times… and for the month of July, I found out that the theme was “Western” and since it has impacted me a great deal, I decided to submit an article! 😮

Here it is!! I’m honestly just giggly thinking that there’s some kind of article online with my name on it! 😀

Please give it a read and the magazine as well! Here’s my article!

Do I look like Kung Fu Panda?!

So I got a chance to speak with my sister-in-law (my wife’s brother’s wife) in Korea.  And she said that she watched the movie Kung Fu Panda recently.  Then she started chuckling and started to tell me how the Kung Fu Panda reminded her of me!  Me!  😮

Do I really look like Kung Fu Panda?  Anyway, she went on to say that the panda’s personality also resembled a lot like me.  I have yet to see the movie… so for those of you that have watched it, does the panda really remind you of me?!  Is the panda that ssul-lung?!  😛  I thought that was funny and wanted to share.

Misfits

Ever since I was a kid, I felt like I didn’t fit in. To anything.

I was a bookworm between the ages of 9 and 13. Loved maths. And physics. Soon after that, I realized that I was a nerd to the core. And to top that off, I was a geek. With that came my interesting (not-so-interesting to most) habits. Mild ones were like stamp and coin collecting. Doing puzzles was another. More geeky ones were like reading comic books, watching butt loads of anime and scifi TV and movies.

God calls us all to be something and someone. After much struggle at self-acceptance of who I was, I realized that it takes one to know one. Being a misfit helped me identify with other misfits… of most kinds. Misfits appear because of only one reason: unacceptable attitudes of others who follow the norm. Some of the most unaccepting kinds are also liberal and democrats. What gives?! I thought liberals were supposed to be the most “open minded”! (runs to the corner and embraces for projectiles)

Taking the name calling aside, unless you were in the popular crowd, we all have had different and unique habits and hobbies at least once in our lives. If not yet, it will come later in life. Human’s simplest desires are basic, and one of them is simply to be accepted for who we are. Not demanding changes, but simply making the effort to understand and comprehend.

Once you start going calling people misfits, and different, you go towards worse places: prejudice and genocides. That’s what you do towards those that seem out of place in order to make yourselves look better. In the words of Jack Nicholson in “Mars Attacks”, “Little people, why can’t we all just get along?”

Preventing things like Darfur genocide and anti-semitism, and racism all begins at the basic level… learning to accept people who are different from us. And that’s 99.9999%!

Two Physical Ailments

So as I biked in again to work today, my legs were in pain… terrible pain.  🙁  The tendons that are right above the knee on the inside of the legs were in excruiciating pain!  I barely got to work in 40 minutes!  The muscles right above the knees were swollen, feeling like about to tear!  I put ice on those and tried to stretch…  so lesson learned?  Stretch, stretch, and then stretch some more!!  Erg… 😡

Second, I started seeing some really dark spots on my right thumb… here’s a picture attempt.

Is this due to some kind of lack of nutrients?!  It’s darker than it seems…  Mom?  Mary?  Sanghee?  Tina?  I need some nurse/doctor advice!!  Or am I just overworrying?

The New Bond Movie: Quantum of Solace

I like the new Bond… he’s a ninja with mad skillz! Ok, really, I like his darker character and the portrayal of more realistic scenarios. And the guy plays his role exceptionally well! Well, the new Bond movie is coming out! And it’s gonna be called “Quantum of Solace”!?! What the… Anyway, this should be good!

Getaway Trip to Austin

So since I had free time and being more flexible, I decided to head up to Austin to see some friends I hadn’t seen in years!

I got hold of Minkyung who was visiting her mom in Kileen, and went to see her.  She is now a mother of two!  😮  Her one-year-old daughter was sleeping so she came out with just her 4-year-old daughter.  She is very cute and looks and acts just like her mom.

After that, I came down to have dinner with two Young Nak members:  Taeyoung and Sungsoo.  Taeyoung is still as well-behaved as ever… and still calls me “ah-juh-ssi”!  LOL.  I suppose I deserve that since she’s 20!  😛  Sungsoo, who is now 23, was becoming a very thoughtful man.  For those that know him, I knew him when he was in high school and has always had attitude with him.  So I was very pleasantly shocked to find out he’s been teaching Sunday school, taking kids on mission trips and such.  God does do miracles after all!!  LOL…

Then, I went to visit the newlywed, Sunhee.  It happened that Chancety was in town as well, so I got to see those … along with Sunhee’s wife.  It was good just hanging out and catching up.  I was just glad to see him doing well…

Then thanks to Joe John, I had a place to sleep for the night!  😀  After church at good ol’ AKPC, I had lunch with Young Ji, young Hwa, and Hakbum, and good ol’ time catching up on everyone…

Afterwards, I tried to see if I could visit Daniel and Amanda but they were busy.  But thankfully, Karen noona and her family were free!  So I went to visit them in south Austin and had good time catching up sharing about everything from raising kids to Korean culture.

I realized that it really isn’t that far from PS’ house to Austin!  It’s only a little over 2 hours!  And I wasn’t even speeding!!  Anyhow, I hadn’t seen some of these people for 5 years!  When I visit Dallas, I will be seeing people that I hadn’t seen in longer time than that!!  Yikes!
