Boeing’s CCDev Wind Tunnel Test on Discovery Canada!

Link to the Show Clip

Well, I knew it was coming and it is here!  As some of you know, I was in California for total of a month on working the Boeing’s CCDev wind tunnel test at NASA Ames Research Center’s Unitary Plan Wind Tunnel.  What I hadn’t told you guys was that Discovery Channel Canada came to do an interview to do 5 minute short on this test!  I was on the night shift and they came to do the interview and video taping during the day.

Well, I am glad to see my co-workers and our very own project on TV!   :D  Watch the clip if you haven’t already!

“Lost” Finale – Remarks

*SPOILER ALERT*

In case you haven’t heard or really follow the series, “Lost” is finally found.  It’s over.  Yup.  Series has ended as of Sunday, and I finally got to see the ending…

In case you also forgot, this series was directed by the one and the same:  J. J. Abrams who brought “Alias” to us.   Yup.  I hated the ending to that series.  The complicated plot that should’ve been addressed more appropriately came to a screeching and frustrating ending.  “Lost” has NOT been any different!  It has brought in way more questions than answers… each season!  By third season, I was officially frustrated with it and watched it only to watch with my wife.

So when I heard this would be the last season, I didn’t have very high expectation thinking that J.J. would botch this one too.  It was a mixed review on Sunday night when I rudely discovered that the series finale would air on Sunday instead of its ‘regular’ Tuesday.  Not only that, people were already throwing out spoilers!  Sheesh… But I managed to stay away and finally watched the finale today.

*SPOILER ALERT*

I expected disappointment and while I wasn’t blown away for sure, it ended rather… pleasantly.  No it did NOT answer all the questions… including what the island is to begin with and why it’s there in the first place!  However, what I did NOT expect was the more personal touch to the series.  As all the cast members gathered in the church towards the end, it felt like the writers were hinting at religious theme and an ending.  That’s not what made me forgive its (still) botchy ending.  It was how the characters interacted to the end.  Also, the way the black smoke/John was killed off by “turning” off the light source was ingenious and was not expected!

I guess the writers and the directors knew that the ending was impossible to answer all the questions… so only with few major questions answered, they decided to leave it to our imaginations.  And you know what?  Unlike “Alias” ending, I was not minding it at all… I still would love to find out more answers and wished for more concrete implications of what the final “gathering” in the church meant but I will let the show go…

Save “Chuck”!

CNN News

One of the cool shows of the recent years (unlike the stoopid “Lost”) is my new favorite, Chuck.  It’s a slightly comedic show on a nerd guy who becomes a CIA agent and carries the Intersect, the super secret data supercomputer, in his brain.

Even Soojin has been getting into the show.  It’s funny and it’s got the romance for the female audience.  Well, the show may get cancelled and not return from the second season.  All I have to say to that is “BOOOO!!”.  So with the power of the Internet and network sites, people have been rallying to save the show!!  Go do whatever you have to do to save the show!!  Please!!

Engage… Make it so #1

As some of you know, I had written an article on the cowboys and western movies and their impact on me. Well, I have also grown huge interest in sci-fi as well since I was a kid! So needless to say, if Clint Eastwood is the badass of the western genre, then Patrick Stewart is the badass of the sci-fi genre. Who the heck is he, you ask? Well, to the sci-fi nerds, he’s better known to us as Jean-Luc Picard. That’s Captain Jean-Luc Picard to you, by the way. 😀

Capt. Picard was the captain in the The Star Trek: The Next Generation. Sure I liked the original, Capt. James T. Kirk. Capt. Kirk had his … interesting … pauses… in … his … speech, and a way with the ladies, but Capt. Picard was the leader. He made the whole concept of being a leader so amazing. Stern when needed, yet quite approacheable, Capt. Picard made me want to be a good leader.

Sure, you can laugh at my admiring a fictional character, but Picard always had a class and a way about his actions. I sure do miss the TV episodes… shucks. And of course, Patrick Steward did an awesome job creating the character. I still imitate some of his famous lines… “Engage” “Make it so, #1”.

Here’s to you, Capt… to the final frontier!

Andrea Bocelli / Paul Potts

With the sensation of Paul Potts hitting the opera scene via “Got Talent” in Britain, it made me think about my all-time favorite tenor, Andrea Bocelli. Most already know that he’s an Italian and blind. My favorite song, as many probably claim, is “Con te partiro”.

His voice somehow touches the soul and is able to give breath of peace and life into me. This whole reminder came about because of this British ex-cell phone seller (who evidently did study a bit of opera) gave it a shot.

My wife also was very moved by Paul’s story. You can just search his name on Youtube and will see a whole bunch. Here’s one for you to sample … his “debut” on the show and how everyone of even the slightest heart was sold on him.

Without further adue…
