This is just awesome!!! I can now blog straight from my Droid X!! Hopefully I will blog more from now on.
WordPress 2.9.1 Boo
Well, I do love me my WordPress, the free blogging software. It has been awesome for me ever since I decided to blog… however, upgrading has been… less than ideal…
Last night was a prime example. Either the “Upgrade” tool or “InstantUpgrade” plug-in would usually take care of this process… however, trying to go from 2.8.5 to 2.9.1, neither of them worked… so what did I decide to do? Upload directly to the site via good ol’ FTP. Well, when I did, I got the following error message….
So I was up until wee hours going back to 2.8.5. Sure it was my fault for not checking it to be compatible.. but it would’ve been nice if such key requirements were more visible… *HINT HINT* 😉
Please donate time on your PS3 and PC to help find cure!
I have lost my uncles, aunts, and grandparents, not to mention friends, to cancer. Liver cancer, lung cancer, stomach cancer, you name it. I’ve even lost my cousin to Leukemia. That’s why I searched for ways to help in whatever I can do.
Enter Stanford University. A professor there started studying the ways proteins change and become new molecules, also known as “folding”. By studying and knowing how proteins fold, a cure for cancer can be found. I have my PS3 and my 2 PCs doing this whenver I am not using them. So yes, you do pay a bit extra for electricity usage but for a 200W PC, that equates to about $20/month extra! If you have the new PS3 Slim, it only uses about $10/month of electricity!
By helping and contributing, I feel like Morpheus from Matrix…
“Now consider the alternative. What if I am right? What if the prophecy is true? What if tomorrow the war could be over? Isn’t that worth fighting for? Isn’t that worth dying for?”
Don’t you want to feel like you’ve done all you can? So as to not have regrets?! I sure do. I want to know that I’ve done all I can in help fighting cancer. Let’s make cancer history… If you need help setting this up and running it, please ask and I’d be ecstatic to help!
Windows 7’s “XP Mode”
Of all the bad stunts that Microsoft has done in the past and present, this suprised even the likes of me by making me say things like “Wow… Microsoft is doing THIS?! What happened?! They are actually doing stuff that seems *gasp* productive!”
The new and upcoming Windows 7, the successor to the-now-just-blah of Windows Vista, will have a very nice feature. It’s called “XP Mode”! This will actually run Windows XP. This is great for gamers like me who still have loads of games that run only in XP. This is great for people who use softwares that are pre-Vista years. However, it’s not entirely “free”. Here are some potential deal breakers…
- Must have at least 2 GB of memory and a processor that is capable of virtualization
- This add-on is available only to those with Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise, or Ultimate variations
But still, this seems like a doable choice and a tempting way to entice people like me into it more. Go Microsoft for once!!
Craigslist Reader: An Awesome Free Tool
This reminds me of the news group days… for those deal seekers out there, you all know about Craigslist, which is a free classified listing service. You can find practically anything, including jobs! However, it is practically daunting to try to find something sometimes because you couldn’t search by multiple locations and/or categories. Well, your worry days in deal-finding days are over! Thanks to Motion Technologies’ free software, Craigslist Reader, you can now just do that! You can search by multiple locations and categories!! Go get it and start looking for deals … or jobs!! It’s rather easy to use and awesome at what it does!!
My E-mail & Website got Hacked!
If you get an e-mail from me and I sound terrible (more than usual!) grammatically and all, it’s not ME! Someone managed to hack into my e-mail account (yahoo one) and sent out spam e-mail to all my contacts with a link to some bogus website to buy stuff! 😡 Erg… it’s my very first time where someone logged into my account and sent out a bunch!!
I’m gonna have to regularly change my passwords now… 🙁 What is the world coming to?!
EDIT: Never mind!! My website got hacked too!! 😮 WTF?!! 😡
Skype’s Unlimited World Plan Review
Skype has been around for quite some time now… it has established itself as VoIP (Voice over IP) initiator. This means that it will allow you to make calls over the Internet. Now, it has taken another major step towards bigger market. It is now offering what it calls “Unlimited World Plan“. What is this? For just $10 a month (ok, $9.95 to be precise but it’s $10!), you can make unlimited calls to anywhere in the 34 countries! And it also happens to include South Korea! 😀
So I signed up to test this humongous potential! I used my Logitech Webcam as microphone. I call Soojin up as she’s in Korea. I hear her just fine. However, she says she can only hear my first syllable… like a bad cell phone call. 🙁 I get frustrated so I hang up. I call her back with the cheap calling card I have been using from www.fonsale.com
Brian had warned me about this poor quality… so I was about to give up on it… but after few days of thinking, I decided to search SKype’s site for “poor quality”. What comes up first? Echo. That’s right. First thing it says is that echo can degrade audio quality and that webcams are infamous for it. So I decided to unplug the USB webcam and plugged into mic port a microphone that I own. I dial Korea again, and this time, she hears me perfectly!! 😮
Conclusion to this review? What about this line? “We have a winner!!” 😛 Seriously folks, if you call one of those 34 countries frequently (and that includes within US, Canada, and Mexico), this is one heck of a deal!! Just be sure to not use USB webcams!! 🙂
